The siege of Berbice at the hands of armed bandits continued Monday evening when the owner of a popular trucking service was gunned down and his wife severely chopped in their Corentyne home, according to sources.

A close family associate gave the name of the dead man as Davindra Deodat of 72 Hampshire Squatting Area. He owns ā€œCool Runningsā€ trucking service. The trucking service proprietor was shot to his left side chest, left side neck and left forearm and left to die on a sofa in his living room.

His wife, Shaneeza Deodat, sustained a deep chop wound to her head and her father, Rafiq ā€œKingā€ Kapoor, was shot to his right shoulder. Sources said that the limb might have to be amputated.

A bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery was carted off by the three bandits.

The incident occurred around 6 PM.

A close family associate said at least three shots were fired while the bandits were on Deodatā€™s premises. While they were fleeing, another shot was fired.

It is believed that the bandits entered the house through a grocery that the family owns on the lower flat.

This is the latest in a spate of deadly robberies to have struck mainly the East Berbice area in recent weeks.
