An East Coast Demerara woman and her sister were Tuesday seeking medical attention for chop wounds which were allegedly inflicted by the partner of one of them.
The reputed wife has been identified as Yankumarie Bissoon while the sister is still to be identified. Both of them are from Phase Two, Good Hope.
A check at the GPHC revealed that the women were being attended to at the Accident and Emergency Unit though there was no word on the extent of their injuries.
An individual familiar with the couple told Demerara Waves Online News that the man went to the home of Bissoonâs sister where she was and chopped her. The sister reportedly tried to intervene and she too was wounded.
The source, who chose to remain unnamed, said the man had a history of abuse towards Bissoon and recently served time for assaulting her. The individual described Bissoon as a âquiet person.â
According to the source, the woman wanted to end the relationship and it was that which triggered the attack.
Up to the time of publishing the man had not been taken into custody.
This latest incident comes after a spate of domestic violence last month in which at least three women and several children were chopped by the men in their lives. Two young children and a teenaged girl were killed while others were left severely injured.
