The body of a man, who was killed, was recovered during the pre-dawn hours of Monday on the Port Kaituma Road.
Police identified the man as Steve George, 37, of Four Miles, Port Kaituma.
Persaud said the man was lashed with an object because his chin was broken, teeth missing and there was a laceration to the neck.
The body was discovered about 3:30 AM at Four Miles, Port Kaituma Road by a policeman who was on a truck heading to another area.
No one has been arrested.
Other sources said the body was discovered hours after the launch of Amerindian Heritage Month at the Community Centre, Central Park.
