A woman, who stole her friend’s Blackberry and was caught when she accepted a BBM date with another of the owner’s friends, was Monday jailed.
21-year old Tricia Persaud of 1231 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by City Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan.
The prosecution’s case is that she stole the Blackberry from Amit Ramdatt of 65 Sheriff Street, Campbelville. The theft allegedly occurred on July 22 at Ramdatt’s office located on 34 North Road, Lacytown.
The court was told that the two had been friends for two years.
The facts were that after Ramdatt had spent 15 minutes in another office, he returned to realise that both Persaud and the phone had vanished.
He then asked a friend to add his PIN. Persaud was subsequently invited out for a date via Blackberry Messenger as part of a successful sting operation.
Persaud admitted to committing the offence. She told the court she was sorry and she hoped that Persaud would forgive her.
