Three former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guardsmen were Tuesday found guilty of murdering Dweive Kant Ramdass and dumping his body overboard after robbing him of millions of dollars.
The 12-member jury returned a unanimous verdict of guilty. They were sentenced to death by hanging for the offence that was committed between August 20 and 22, 2009 at Caiman Hole, East Bank Essequibo.
Sentenced by Justice Franklyn Holder are Sherwyn Hart, Deon Greenidge and Devon Gordon.
They had robbed Ramdass of GUY$17 million that he had been carrying in a box to Bartica.
After ordering the man to board a GDF watercraft, they killed him took the money and returned to Parika where the cash had been divided up and given to other persons.
A police road block had later intercepted them with the cash.
The judge summed up the case earlier Tuesday and then the jury Tuesday afternooon returned with a unanimous verdict after more than 30 minutes of deliberations.
