The rifle that was snatched from a policeman during a robbery at the Wismar Post Office was Tuesday morning discovered in a clump of bushes on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, well-placed sources said.
None of the estimated GUY$2 million that was stolen from the post office has been recovered so far.
Three persons, who have been detained, are very well-known to the police.
Police source said that the magazine with 20 rounds of ammunition was not recovered. Investigators believed that the bandits disposed of the firearm in a clump of bushes near Milly’s Hideout to avoid being caught with the weapon at a road block that had been set up.
According to the sources, passersby saw the weapon and alerted the police.
Police have said that the men Monday morning staged the daring Monday morning attack on the post office at a time when pensioners were queuing up awaiting their monthly allowance.
A police release later stated that the men held up the Postmistress and a female clerk. They also took away an undisclosed sum of cash from a drawer and over $2M from a safe before escaping.
