A manhunt was in progress Wednesday morning for a prisoner who escaped from the Timehri Prison, well-placed sources said.
The name of the prisoner was not immediately known, but sources describe him as a man of Amerindian descent.
Officials said the inmate, who was on remand, scaled the fence around 9 AM.
Teams of prison officers and policemen have been deployed in the Soesdyke-Linden Highway and surrounding areas to recapture the prisoner.
