Lightning shocked at least seven sugar workers at Blairmont estate, West Coast Berbice Friday morning and they were rushed to a nearby hospital, according to sources.

A number of the field workers were rendered unconscious but they later recovered at the Fort Wellington Hospital. No one was killed.

The men were loading a punt at the time of the incident.

Thunderstorms have been lashing the coast  for several days now, putting the Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) on alert for severe faults.
