Opposition Leader denies being in possession of several drones

Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed on Thursday denied that several unregistered drones were found in two vehicles and rejected claims that they were acting in a suspicious manner near President Irfaan Ali’s private residence at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

Mr Mohamed also told Demerara Waves Online News that a drone found in the vehicle in which was an occupant was not his property.

“One drone, one drone was found, yes,” he said.

He said the other vehicle that was intercepted by police at Crane, West Demerara, was in no way connected to him.

He said the driver of that vehicle had merely extended courtesies to him. 

“He asked, ‘how y’all doing?’ and then he went off, you know, on his own business. They brought him in. They still have him in custody along with the driver and the photographer,” he said.

Mr Mohamed said he did not even attempt to fly the drone and offered police an opportunity to check its flying history to confirm what he told them.

He said he did not drive through President Ali’s street at Lenora, but had passed by on a nearby street on his way to the seawall to inspect the quality of works and also “expose” corruption.

Mr Mohamed said he was released on self-bail and told to return on Saturday.
