Demerit, e-ticketing to tackle “lawlessness” on roads

President Irfaan Ali said technology would soon be used to integrate the demerit system with the e-ticketing platform.

Describing the situation on the roadways as “lawlessness,” Dr Ali told the Guyana Police Force’s 2026 annual officers conference that the technologically-driven mechanism would also see the authorities going after drivers who are not paying tickets. That, he said would be done through legislation.

He said when the police force e-case filing and management systems come online, it would eliminate issues such as missing, misplaced and delayed case files.

‘Technology is here and it will be utilised optimally in the Guyana Police Force,” he said.
