The owner of a cellular phone store has been arrested after a number of unlicensed guns and ammunition were allegedly found in his possession on Sheriff Street, Georgetown, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said on Monday.
The agency said the resident of Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara was intercepted on Sunday night during an operation that was based on information received.
CANU said its agents seized one AK-47 rifle bearing serial number A1-72720-20 ROA, along with one magazine containing nineteen 7.62×39mm live rounds, one Glock 17 pistol bearing serial number LVH237 with one magazine containing seven 9mm live rounds, and one Taurus pistol bearing serial number AHD901601 with one empty magazine.
CANU said the suspect was licensed to carry the Glock 17 pistol.
