Police at Puruni Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have seized 23 “bulky” parcels of marijuana and methamphetamine, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said on Thursday.
A Guyanese man, who admitted to being in possession of the narcotics, and his Venezuelan reputed wife were arrested, police said.
Those arrested during Wednesday night’s cordon and search operation are Hudley “Allan” Khan and 32-year-old Yolimar Del Valle Rivas.
Police said the entire operation and Mr Khan’s reported admission were video recorded by the GPF’s camera.
“The ranks requested to conduct searches for illegal firearms, narcotics, and ammunition, after which Khan indicated that he had narcotics in his room,” police said.
In addition to a multi-coloured bag that contained the 23 “bulky parcels” and one transparent plastic bag, police said they seized one plastic bag containing a whitish, rock-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
