A Colombian and a Venezuelan were arrested on Friday allegedly with 5.5 kilogrammes of cocaine, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) said.
That anti-drug agency said its agents acted on information received and conducted an operation at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown,
Head of CANU, James Singh said the Colombian entered Guyana legally and has been here for the past three months and the Venezuelan claimed he has been in Guyana for the past four years.
The Venezuelan man is the holder of a Guyana driver’s licence and drives a taxi.
Meanwhile, CANU said that on Thursday 10th April 2025, its agents seized 100 kilogrammes of marijuana from a residence located at Bakershop Dam #75 Village, Corentyne, Berbice. Two persons are currently in custody assisting with investigations, CANU said.
