President Irfaan Ali on Wednesday announced that his ministerial cabinet was examining ways of supporting the development of religious leaders of Guyana’s three major religions.

“We as a government, as a Cabinet, we’re discussing currently ways in which we can support the development of pastors, pandits and imams in our country even if it means that we have to collaborate with the religious leaders and find institutions through which we will support their development and we’re committed to doing that,” he said.

He made the announcement at the Lord Shiva Statue, believed to be the biggest in the Caribbean, at the Badrinaath Ashram, Spring Garden, Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Dr Ali also told attendees that government planned to add a third ferry to the Parika-Supenaam route and not only resurface the Essequibo Coast road but make provision for the increased number of vehicles there.

The President said plans were also in the pipeline to add another ferry to the North West District to cater for increased demand for transportation in support of a rise in production since the introduction of the first India-made MV Ma Lisha ferry more than one year ago on that route.

Dr Ali punctuated his speech with the number of projects and programmes that had been implemented by his People’s Progressive Party Civic administration. “Do not take it for granted,” he said.
