Junior Minister of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguso says a study is underway to determine the economic impact of the airline industry on Guyana.
She made the announcement at: a ceremony to mark the inaugural flight of the Suriname-headquartered Fly Allways airline that will initially serve the Paramaribo- Guyana- Barbados route.
Ferguson said the study began two months ago and is expected to be completed by year-end. More than 81.1 percent of visitors come to Guyana come by air.
The study is being conducted by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Director General- designate of the Authority, Retired Colonel Egbert Field said the International Civil Aviation Organisation would be conducting an audit of Guyana’s aviation industry with the ultimate aim of the country achieving Category One rating according to United States standards.
That would eventually facilitate the originating of North American- bound direct flights by Guyana-based airlines.
Ferguson also hoped that Fly Allways would guarantee the highest quality service as part of efforts to boost intra-Caribbean and South American travel
Fly Allways also plans to fly to Boa Vista in Brazil.
