Police were up to late Friday afternoon probing whether a body discovered aback Alness Village, Corentyne is that of the British young man who has been reported missing.

Head of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Guyana Police Force, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum told Demerara Waves Online News that sleuths were heading to the area.

Blanhum said the body was in a state of decomposition and so there was no immediate confirmation that it is that of 18-year old Dominic Michael Lloyd Bernard, who has not been seen or heard from since he travelled to Guyana in October, 2015.

Other police sources said clothing and other items were seen near the remains of the body. One man remained in custody in Berbice.

Investigators received information from public spirited citizens who led them to the area.

Bernard had told his family in the United Kingdom that he would have been travelling to Guyana and was expected to stay at with god brother, Aaron Hing, in Berbice.

Immigration, airline and customs records have shown that Bernard has not left Guyana at any of the official ports of entry.

His father has since flown to Guyana and appealed for any assistance in locating his son who has been uncharacteristically inactive on Social Media such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
