Principal of School of the Nations, Dr. Brian O’Toole.

The Principal of School of the Nations, Brian O’Toole, was shot and injured Sunday night, his wife said.

Dr. O’Toole was shot near the front door of his residence located at Bel Air Promenade, Prashad Nagar.

His wife confirmed that he is conscious and stable at a city hospital.

Unofficial information indicates Dr. O’Toole sustained gunshot wounds to both hands. The bones in the left arm and forearm were reportedly shattered.

Police turned up early Monday morning at the hospital and took a statement from his wife. Someone associated with the O’Tooles accompanied crime scene investigators to their home where lawmen photographed the scene and uplifted spent shells.

The incident occurred at a time when School of the Nations is addressing violent threats on Facebook by one or more students. It is unclear so far whether an expelled student and the police investigation into the Facebook threats to injure Sixth Form students are related.

Minutes after the incident, another post appeared on Facebook stating “You have been warned. His life is not and won’t only be the first. Like I said, there is a plethora of us out for your life,” said the post by someone named “Nations Trollololololo”.

Earlier Sunday, O’Toole advised hundreds of parents at an emergency meeting that security would be tightened at the school with the presence of armed private security guards and possibly police presence. He said the Guyana Police Force has been called in and Facebook has been asked to help track down the person who has been posting the threats on that Social Media platform.

He also told that meeting that a cyber-security expert that School of the Nations has a partnership with and who works for the State Department has said it would be very difficult to locate the person who is responsible for the Facebook posts.
