Guyanese chef swallows cocaine to take to Caribbean tourist paradise – police

A chef was Sunday morning arrested after he admitted to swallowing 35 cocaine pellets to take to The Bahamas, police said.

The Guyana Police Force did not release his name, but said he 26 years old,  employed by an “established fast-food” entity and lives at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Anti-narcotics police said the man, who was arrested at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at about 4:30 AM as he was about to board a flight to the Caribbean tourism destination, admitted to carrying the cocaine.

“The 26 yrs. old, East Ruimveldt resident who was on the police radar for sometime now, has admitted to the law enforcement officials that he swallowed thirty-five cocaine pellets, which was subsequently confirmed by an x ray,” police said.

The suspect,  who is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, has so far excreted fourteen pellets which amounted to 146 grammes.
