United Nations employees robbed outside Guyana office

Police said two employees of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Guyana were robbed shortly after disembarking a vehicle outside their office on Brickdam, Georgetown.
No one has been arrested, and police said they were “in possession of CCTV (Closed Circuit Television ) footage and were currently conducting further investigation.
Investigators were told that the incident occurred at about 12:50 Friday afternoon. The bandits grabbed a handbag containing GD$10,000.00, one iPad, an electronic dictionary and some documents.
The two employees-a male and a female – had just returned to the UNDP  at 42 Brickdam and United Place Stabroek, in their motor car. “The female employee proceeded into the compound but as the male employee was existing the car, a dark colored motor vehicle with the two suspects drove up, existed and accosted the male employee. He resisted and was pushed to the ground. The suspect grabbed the handbag with the contents, entered the vehicle and sped off,” police said in a statement.

The Guyana Police Force said a public spirited citizen who is a licensed firearm holder witnessed the robbery and discharged several rounds in aid of the victims of the robbery.
Spent shells were found at the scene and investigators.

Assistant Commissioner Marlon Chapman, Commander of ‘A’ Division subsequently visited the scene, spoke with the Chief Security Officer, other officials and the victims.
