Briton killed, daughter injured in road accident

Police said they were investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 5:15  Wednesday morning on the Chelsea Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara which resulted in the death of a British woman and serious injury to her daughter who is also a British national.

Dead is Bibi Haroon O’Donovan, 58 years, of 15 Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.

Police learned that the deceased and her daughter Shaneeza Lewis, 23 years, also a British Citizen, were passengers in motor car HC 6753 which was proceeding west of Chelsea Public Road, at a fast rate, when the driver lost control and crashed into the rear of a stationery lorry, on the opposite side of the road.

They were rushed to Mahaicony Public Hospital where O’Donovan was pronounced dead on arrival, whilst Lewis was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporatipon in an unconscious state.

The driver is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
