The Guyana government has begun integrating contracted employees into the fixed establishment of the public service, Minister of State Joseph Harmon said Wednesday.

Speaking with reporters shortly after handing over a copy of the Public Service Commission of Inquiry Report to House Speaker, Dr. Barton Scotland, the Minister of State said more than 100 contracted employees are now part of the regular public service.

He said efforts were being made to ensure that there is no loss of income by being part of the various salary bands.

Harmon said the integration of the contract employees and how public servants' salaries should be increased have been addressed in the Commission of Inquiry Report as part of a framework.

The Minister of State suggested that the Public Service Commission of Inquiry Report has set the stage for collective bargaining with the trade unions.

He said copies of the report would be delivered to Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo, the Guyana Public Service Union, Guyana Trades Union Congress and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana.
