A former Guyana presidential spokesman was among three persons arraigned for the throwing of a bowl of faeces on newspaper columnist and political activist, Freddie Kissoon six years ago.

Kwame Mc Coy, a Central Committee member of the opposition People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC), pleaded not guilty to the offence and he was granted GYD$100,000 bail. Mc Coy is a former spokesman to Presidents Jagdeo and Ramotar.

The others charged with unlawful assault are Jason Abdulla, a former Office of the President employee, who now works with the PPPC’s Freedom Radio, and Shawn Hinds.

Hinds, a self-confessed death squad member, is a one-time body guard for ousted Town Clerk, Carol Ryan Sooba. Hinds had frequented the PPPC’s Freedom House and party political meetings in recent years.

They were also granted GYD$100,000 bail , ordered to lodge their travel documents and report to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department periodically. But Mc Coy told the court that he lost his passport but was quickly advised that that was a condition for bail.

The incident occurred in 2010 near Nigel’s Supermarket, Robb Street, Georgetown moments  before Kissoon, a fierce critic of the PPPC and its then government, had entered his vehicle.
