Former Public Service Minister, Dr. Jennifer Westford

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) says only seven of 24 files have been returned by police for advice on how to proceed with fraud allegations against former Public Service Minister, Dr. Jennifer Webster and her then Chief Personnel Officer, Margaret Cummings.

The DPP’s Office suggested that the files have been shuttling back and forth to police since early September of this year.

The DPP’s Chambers said that as of Friday, December 11, 2015 it was in possession of seven of the twenty-four police files in regards to the investigations for the offence of fraud allegedly committed by the duo.

According to the DPP’s Chambers, the even files were received at the DPP’s Office on December 9,2015. On September 7,2Ol5, the Guyana Police Force had initially sent twenty-four files for legaladvice.

After due legal attention was given to these 24 files, these files were returned with legal advice to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) because of incomplete investigations.

On October 29,2015, the 24 police files were again sent by the police to these Chambers. Again, after due legal attention was given, the 24 police files were dispatched to the GPF on November 24 and November 30, 2015 with legal advice for the police investigations to be completed and for the police files to be returned to the DPP Chambers for further legal advice.

On December 9,2015, the Guyana Police Force returned seven of the 24 files to the DPP Chambers for legal advice.

Westford and Cummings have fraud-related charges connected to the sale of several government vehicles that were subsequently returned to the State.
