Director of Prisons, Welton Trotz was Thursday arraigned on a charge of sexual assault and granted GUY$100,000 bail.

Trotz, who is a former Assistant Police Commissioner, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore.

He is due to return to court on October 27 before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan. Trotz has since announced his resignation from the top security post.

He is accused of committing the offence to a female prison officer.

The prosecution’s details of the allegation were not available because the case was heard in camera (away from the glare of the public) in keeping with the Sexual Offences Act.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that Trotz be charged with the offence that allegedly dates back to January, 2015. A Board of Inquiry, under the chairmanship of now deceased former Director of Prisons Cecil Kilkenny, had recommended disciplinary action against Trotz.

Two weeks ago, the Director of Prisons was the recipient of the Disciplined Services Medal from President David Granger at the Investiture Ceremony.
