A motorist, who was stopped for a traffic offence and allegedly found with a gun and ammunition, was Wednesday remanded to prison.

Daren John of 141 First Street, Alberttown, Georgetown will return to court on October 12, 2015.

Appearing before City Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan, the man pleaded not guilty to being in possession of one .38 revolver with six matching rounds, four 9MM rounds and two .32 rounds without being the holder of a firearm license.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that traffic cops stopped John on Thomas Street, Georgetown on September 28, 2015 to conduct a breathalyzer test  when one of the lawmen felt an object at the man’s waist.

Jones told the court that the man dashed back to his car and sped away. However, he was later intercepted by another patrol and escorted to Brickdam Police Station where the gun and munitions were discovered in his car.

Bail was refused based on the gravity and nature of the offence.
