FLASH BACK: Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud viewing several of the guns and ammunition that have been surrendered.

The Guyana Police Force on Monday said it was netting more illegal weapons, rounds and cartridges, eight days ahead of the end of the one-month amnesty for such illegal weapons.

Authorities have said that no one would be charged with the illegal possesson of such items, but ballistic tests would be conducted to ascertain whether they have been used to commit crimes. So far no assault rifles- at one time the weapon of choice for heavily armed gangs- have been turned in.
