Guyana’s government and opposition on Friday united in expressing solidarity with the people of Dominica whose island has been devastated by Tropical Storm Erika.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo announced that Guyana was read to rush relief to the Caribbean island where 12 people were killed, 20 others missing,  buildings demolished and bridges and roads washed away.

“The government and people of Guyana are today in solidarity with the government and people of Dominica and that we avail ourselves as a government and people to render whatever assistance  we could to the government and people of Dominica at this time of distress,” said Nagamootoo.

Opposition People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) frontbencher, Clement Rohee also expressed solidarity with Dominica. “ Tropical Storm Erika is a stark reminder that the international community must unite and take action against climate change,” he said.
