The Ministry of Business on Thursday announced that there would be no GuyExpo this year, but plans are in train for a “special version” to cooincide with Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary next year.

In a statement, the Business Ministry said the decision was also taken to hold a Small Business Expo in November, 2015. Government has also signaled its intention to encourage and support the holding of Regional Business Expos during this year. “It is anticipated that such an approach will provide income earning opportunities for businesses, as well as allow for the testing of new products and services in preparation for the bigger event in May 2016,” said the ministry.

The Ministry of Business said those decisions were taken after consultation with the Guyana Manufacturers and Services Association (GM&SA)

“Ministry of Business recognizes the annual Guyana Exposition (GuyExpo) as a popular event and an avenue for local businesses to showcase and sell their goods and services to thousands of potential consumers,” said the ministry in a statement.

The Ministry says it will be consulting with relevant stakeholders, such as, Regional Chambers of Commerce, Regional Democratic Councils, Government Ministries, agencies and other private sector bodies in the coming weeks to share ideas on this matter.
