A businesswoman and her son were gun butted by armed bandits who invaded M. Ali and Son supermarket in New Amsterdam and escaped with at least GUY$500,000 in cash, police sources said.

One of the bandits was mistakenly shot by his accomplice while he attempted to shoot an employee who knows him.

The bandits launched their brazen attack on the supermarket at Main and Pope Streets, New Amsterdam at about 6:50 Thursday night, first holding a customer service representative at gunpoint.

On entering the supermarket, the proprietor’s son, Feroze Ali, was robbed of his 9MM handgun. He and his mother, Nazmoon Ali, were severely gun butted by the bandits as they demanded cash and valuables. The men broke into a drawer, grabbed the cash and numerous phone cards.

Nazmoon Ali received treatment at the New Amsterdam Hospital and was sent home.

After one of the bandits shot the other, they fled the scene in a waiting motor car that was parked on Pope Street near the supermarket. The car was rented from the Canje-based Kevin & Brothers Car Rental Service.
