Fire ripped through a Chinese hardware store at Camp and Robb Streets and shattered the glass of Republic Bank’s branch.

The building also housed Manchester Chinese Restaurant and a small take-away snackette.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The blaze began at about 2 AM in the wooden building that once housed A.H.& L Kissoon Furniture Store.

Fire fighters battled the blaze with access to a ready source  of water. At one stage, the fire tenders were forced to pump water from the canal at Church Street.
