President David Granger

Authorities on Wednesday assured that President David Granger did not seek travel to the United States recently for medical attention.

Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon told reporters at a news conference that the Guyanese leader’s visit was personal.

“The president did not go to the United States for any medical reasons. He went on a private visit, a personal visit,” Harmon told reporters.

Granger,70, departed Guyana on Friday, June 12 for the United States (US) moments after swearing in Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo to perform presidential duties.

The President did not remain in the US for his coalition’s victory rally that was held on Sunday, June 14 but instead returned to Guyana the same day of the well-attended event.

At the Enmore Marty’s rally held on Tuesday May 17, it was Prime Minister Nagamootoo who attended and addressed that event.

But Minister Harmon, when asked whether the President traveled for business or medical purposes, said “I can say to you specifically that the president did not go to the United States on any medical matter. “

Harmon noted that personal issues needed to be addressed because” the matters of State can consume you if you do not from time to time take some time out to look after some personal things.”
