Transparency Institute of Guyana Inc; a local associate of the global corruption watchdog – Transparency International- now has a new team to lead it over the next year or so.

They are Calvin Bernard (President), Ayana McCalman (First Vice President), Aruna Budhram (Second Vice President), Dhanmattie Sohai (Secretary) and Directors Sara Bharrat, Christopher Ram, Harri Persaud Beharry, Troy Thomas and Compton Meerabux.

TIGI said the decision was taken at its Annual General Meeting that was held on June 8, 2015.

Ramesh Seebarran who is not a director, will also serve as Treasurer to the institution.

“This is a diverse group of individuals who have all excelled in their respective fields and who share a mutual interest in eradicating corruption,” said the organisation that had repeatedly come in for scathing criticism for siding with and supporting Transparency International’s calculation of a  high corruption perception index.

TIGI expressed its sincerest gratitude to past Directors Gino Persaud, Esther McIntosh, Arif Bulkan and George Fraser for their continuous efforts and commitment to the organization’s mission.

TIGI says it promotes transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels of society by increasing citizens’ awareness of ethical standards and practices in doing business and the real cost of corruption.

The organization’s vision is a country in which the activities of Government, Businesses, Non-Governmental Organizations and citizens are conducted in an open, fair and just manner.

TIGI says it continues to work on building a Guyana that is relatively free of corruption so that all citizens can derive the full benefits of the country’s resources.
