Police are currently investigating the death of five miners who were killed in a vehicular accident that occurred in the interior location of Lion Mountain late last week. Demerara Waves was unable to ascertain the identity of the five deceased, but understands that the driver of the truck they were travelling in is currently at the Suddie Hospital.

Gaskin Williams is said to be nursing multiple injuries including several fractured ribs.

Information pertaining to the accident is very sketchy, but it is understood that the miners were transporting fuel to their mining destination when the incident occurred Thursday May 21.

Unconfirmed reports say that some 17 persons were in the tray of the “bush truck” when it toppled. Apart from the five persons and the driver, it is unsure what became of the other occupants.

A company official later called Demerara Waves Online News saying that none of its fleet of trucks was involved in an accident.

Lion Mountain is located in the North Western, Cuyuni- Mazaruni area of Region Seven.
