GT&T congratulates APNU+AFC; pledges support to efforts to move Guyana forward

The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company (GT&T) on Monday offered its congratulations to A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change  (APNU+AFC) for its victory in last week’s national election.

The congratulatory statement comes at a time when telecommunications providers are eagerly looking forward to the passage of long-awaited laws to liberalise and regulate the sector.

GT&T had asked the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) administration for compensation if its decades-old monopoly that the company says is guaranteed in an agreement is to be broken through liberalisation.

GT&T’s CEO, Radha Krishna Sharma issued the following statement:

“We congratulate the APNU+AFC, and President Granger in particular, for creating an effective coalition that delivered a historic victory. I take this opportunity also to  commend the APNU+AFC and the outgoing PPP administration for accomplishing a swift and orderly transition of power.

“On behalf of GT&T I want to extend our support for President Granger and the  APNU+AFC as they work to advance peace, national unity and economic development.

GT&T looks forward to deepening our partnership with the people and with the Government, and working with our new leaders to accelerate Guyana’s growth and development.”
