An ex police intelligence officer, who was caught with a gun and ammunition near the headquarters of the police intelligence headquarters, was Thursday jailed for five years.

City Magistrate Judy Latchman imposed the sentence on Jerrel Huntley,27, after he was convicted for being in possession of one 9MM Glock pistol and 14 live rounds.

Huntley of 140 Lamaha Springs was arrested on March 11, 2014 at Barrack and Camp Streets with the gun and ammunition while not being the holder of a firearm licence.

The prosecution’s case is that Huntley had used the gun to threaten his business partner, Surendra Etwaroo if he did not pay him his money.

He was arrested outside the headquarters of Special Branch, the intelligence unit of the Guyana Police Force.
