A former Office Assistant at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, who was previously convicted for cocaine smuggling, was Wednesday afternoon caught again with two kilogrammes of cocaine that he was hoping to take to Barbados, according to well-placed sources.

He is 32-year old Terry De Freitas who late last year won GUY$1 million from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) and had promised to use the cash to purchase a car.

A Customs Ant-Narcotics Unit (CANU) agent told Demerara Waves Online News that the man was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the Ogle International Airport with the illicit substance.

At the time he was nabbed, he was preparing to board a LIAT flight to Barbados.

De Freitas was recently released from the Georgetown Prison ahead of his four year sentence for a narcotic conviction in 2012 on account of good behaviour.

Back on January 26, 2012 he was arrested before departing for the Cayman Islands and taken to a city hospital where he excreted 86 pellets that amounted to one kilogramme of cocaine.

At that time of his arrest then, he was expected to be on duty at the Court. Instead, he had turned up at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with a bag, intending to board a Caribbean Airlines flight with connections to Barbados and Jamaica.

De Freitas had been fined GUY$30,000 and sentenced to four years imprisonment.
