The remains of the two-storey house in ‘C’ Field Sophia.

A jilted lover set ablaze a house in Sophia late Friday night, leaving three persons seriously burnt and several others injured after they jumped from the burning building.

The incident occurred at 636 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Hospitalised in a critical condition is 68-year old Clifford Sampson.  Also injured are Weldon Allen,18, Althea Buelow, Ashanti Gain,10, Shawn Whyte,47, Tabola Abrams,39, and Theresa Buelow.

Sources said that a man named Gavin allegedly turned up at the house and knocked at the door to speak with Tabola with whom he had ended a relationship about one year ago.  After her current partner,  Whyte, told  Gavin that she could not have spoken with him, he became very angry.

He then allegedly soaked parts of the house with a flammable substance and set it ablaze.  Several of the occupants were forced to jump from the well secured two-storey building to avoid being burnt. They, however, received bodily injuries when they landed on the ground.

Relatives said that in the past Gavin was chased several times from the yard.
