Killings, road deaths mar Christmas Season

A mechanic at the seafood company, Pritipaul Singh Investments (PSI) is among several persons reported killed in road accidents and altercations so far for the Christmas Season.

One man was shot and injured by unidentified persons and two others were stabbed to death, police added.

Investigators said that Richard Giddings, 24, of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, lost control of a motor vehicle that he was driving on the Belle Vue Public Road, West Bank Demerara and crashed into a bridge.

Other sources said that Giddings was trying to avoid a number of bikers when the accident occurred at about 7:45 Friday- Boxing Night. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Similarly, Ryan Richards,19, of Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara lost control of a motor vehicle that he was driving about 5:15 Saturday morning on the Tempe Public Road, West Coast Berbice. The vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

He and three others- Cindy Singh, 24 years; Tricia Ross, 35 years; and Ryan Hookumchand, 25 years, all of Diamond New Housing Scheme- received injuries.

Singh was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital while the others have been hospitalized.

Their deaths have brought to five the number of persons killed on the roads between December 23 and December 26, 2014.

In relation to the homicides Sunil Ramsundar,39, of Patentia, West Bank Demerara was involved in an argument with another man at Patentia, during which was stabbed about his body.  That incident occurred Boxing Night about 11:20 PM.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said that the suspect has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Also stabbed to death during an altercation was gold miner, Devon Fraser,26, of Golden Fleece, West Coast Berbice. That incident occurred Wednesday night about 11:45 at Konawaruk, Poatro.

Police said that the assailant also received injuries and they were both admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where Fraser succumbed at about 1:30 Saturday morning.

The suspect is under guard at the GPHC as the investigation continues.

Forty-one years old Satran Sukhdeo of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara told police that he was leaving his residence when two men opened fire at him He was struck to his left leg and is receiving medical attention at a hospital.

That incident occurred at about 4:45 Saturday morning.
