Spain’s foreign minister in Cuba for bilateral and regional talks

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo

Havana, Nov 24 (EFE).- Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo has arrived on his first official visit toCubawhere he will discuss bilateral relations and regional and international issues with his hosts.

Garcia-Margallo arrived on Sunday and is to begin his official agenda on Monday on the first visit toCubaby a Spanish foreign minister in four years.

Most of the agenda will focus on reviewing regional and international issues such as the upcoming Ibero-American Summit in Veracruz, Mexico, he said on arrival.

“It is of great importance to us that Veracruz is a success,” he said.

Current negotiations between the European Union and Cuba to reach a bilateral agreement, Spain’s role as a non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council and the revitalizing of conferences between the E.U. and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States are also to be discussed.

During his visit which concludes on Tuesday, Garcia-Margallo is to meet with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, Foreign Trade Minister Rodrigo Malmierca and Deputy Chairman of the Cuban Ministers’ Council Ricardo Cabrisas.

Cuban President Raul Castro is expected to receive Garcia Margallo Tuesday afternoon.

Garcia-Margallo is the first minister from Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy’s center-right government to visit the country. EFE
