In southern Guyana near the border with Brazil, lightning shocked two school-age children and damaged a section of the house in which they are living.

The two members of the Paulino family were rushed from their residence at St. Ignatius to the nearby Lethem Public Hospital.

Their conditions were not immediately known.

A Caribbean News Desk Citizen Reporter, who visited the scene, reported that mattresses were burnt and louvre panes shattered.

At the time of the incident, other members of the household were at the St. Ignatius Benab to collect an annual state grant of US$50 for school children.
