GDF officer charged with causing death by dangerous driving

A Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant (GDF) was arraigned on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving and he was granted bail.

Lt. Anthony Eastman of Well Road, North Ruimveldt was granted GUY$200,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge that states that on November 1, 2013 at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown he drove a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public that resulted in the death of Ronald Gonsalves.

Eastman was granted bail after his lawyer told the court that his client was not a flight risk and that he had been cooperating with the police during their probe.

The case comes up again on October 21, 2014.
