Mahaica man beaten to death at Issano

One of three gold miners, who were tied and beaten by robbers at Issano, died early Monday morning at a city hospital.

He has been identified as Joseph Nurse of Belmonte, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

Investigators learnt that Nurse and two of his workers were attacked and beaten by two men who were armed with a piece of wood and a gun on Thursday, September 18 at 14 Miles Issano. “They demanded gold and money and subsequently tied up the men and left the camp,” said police in a statement.

Nurse was air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he died at 4 O’clcok Monday morning.

Danesh Rampersaud, 18 years, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, managed to free himself and untied the others.

They were taken to Troy’s Resources Medical Centre where they received medical treatment.
