A man was Friday arraigned for the road deaths of two overseas-based Guyanese on the Mabura Road and released on GUY$1 million bail.

Forty-three year old Michael Jordan of 21 Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara was not required to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving that was read to him by City Magistrate, Fabaoy Azore.

While on bail, he has to report to the Providence Police Station every Friday at 3 PM. He also has to lodge all travel documents in his possession.

He returns to court on October 7.

The prosecution’s short facts of the case are that Jordan drove pickup, GMM 7330, in a manner dangerous to the public that caused the deaths of Raymond Khan,64, of Canada and Jean Williams,60, of Trinidad. The holidayers were on their way to Bartica when the accident occurred.

Police Prosecutor, Seon Blackman unsuccessfully objected to bail although he argued that the offence was serious and the punishment would be harsh if Jordan was convicted.

Defence Lawyer, Leslyn Charles requested bail for the husband, father of two and sole-breadwinner of the family.  She assured that there was no reason for objecting bail because Jordan is not a flight risk. She highlighted that her client could have fled the country because he was not under police guard while he was hospitalized for injuries sustained. Rather, he appeared in court to face the charge.
