A vendor on Tuesday pleaded guilty to robbing two persons with a toy gun and he was jailed for a total of 12 months.

Appearing before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore,  John Martin of Leopold Street, Georgetown admitted that he robbed two persons of a cellular phone and cash before he was arrested by private security guards.

The two six-month sentences would run consecutively. The Magistrate considered Martin’s plea and the fact that a toy gun was used to commit the offences.

Police Prosecutor, Adduni Inniss told the court that about 5 AM on August 20, 2014 on Main Street, Georgetown, being armed with a gun, he robbed Monique Vossey of one cellular phone valued GUY$12,000. Moments later he robbed Miguel Sammy of GUY$6,400.

The court was told that Vossey was in a Route 45 minibus when Martin pulled black handgun and pointed it at her before relieving her of the cellular phone and escaping.

Moments later, he attacked Sammy in a similar manner and relieved him of the cash. However, private security guards who were in the area arrested Martin. They seized the gun and recovered the stolen cash and phone.

Martin and the items were handed over to the police and he was charged and placed before the court.
