Bandit shot dead outside auto spare parts store

A bandit was shot dead and a handgun recovered during an armed robbery at an auto spares store on Sheriff and Duncan Streets, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Leslie James said.

Police said in a statement that the unidentified man was shot by a businessman who was robbed of GUY$1.7 million while at Ramchand Auto Spares to transact business. The bag with the money was recovered, police said in a statement. The bag with the money was recovered shortly after the bandit was shot.

The incident occurred about 12 noon Monday.

“The armed man ran outside and towards a motor cycle that was being driven by an accomplice, pursued by the businessman.

The armed man discharged a round and the businessman, who is a licensed firearm holder, returned fire hitting the armed man to his neck. His accomplice managed to escape,” police added.
 
The perpetrator was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An unlicensed .32 Taurus revolver with five rounds and a spent shell has been recovered, police added.
