A Lance Corporal of City Constabulary is believed to have committed suicide after an investigation revealed that an estimated GUY$1 million had gone missing, well placed sources said.

The body of 47-year old Compton Joseph was found in his house at Sophia, just days after a internal audit revealed that the money could not have been accounted for.

Most of the cash was accumulated from station bail.

Joseph, who was employed by the City Constabulary for the past 15 years, had moved up the ladder to the officer-in-charge of Stores.

Head of the Guyana Police Force Criminal Investigations Department, Senior Superintendent Leslie James said Joseph “walked off the job” and was wanted by national and city police. “He might have been in charge of cash and property,” said James.
