Guyana’s National Chess Coach was Wednesday arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to rob.

Twenty-five year old Wendell Meusa of 142 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown was granted GUY$150,000 bail and ordered to return to court on July 2. By then, statements would be provided.

Police Prosecutor, Joel Ricknauth did not oppose bail being granted because the man has no previous convictions.

During his arraignment, City Magistrate Judy Latchman heard that on June 15 at High Street, Georgetown, he allegedly assaulted Shaleeza Mohammed with intent to rob her.

Police prosecution’s facts are that Meusa and Mohammed were passengers in the same bus when he demanded that the driver stop the vehicle. While exiting, he allegedly pulled the woman’s handbag but she held to it tenaciously.

Meusa allegedly drew a rusty cutlass and fired several chops in the woman’s direction. She retaliated by kicking him out of the bus.

Mohammed sustained minor chop wounds to her head and hand. Meusa was arrested and charged.
