Three-lane system for East Bank Demerara traffic

A three-lane system is being introduced from the Demerara Harbour Bridge to Houston beginning Tuesday, “in an effort to ease the traffic build-up during peak hours,” police said.

The Guyana Police Force explained that the three-lane system will be from 7 AM to 9 AM and 5PM to 7 PM Monday to Friday. The police force asked ,motorists to  cooperate with the police ranks who will be directing traffic during the two stated peak periods.

The police explained that during the morning period of 0700h. to 0900h, in addition to the two lanes on the western carriageway, the western lane of the eastern carriageway will also be used to accommodate motor vehicles travelling north into Georgetown.

During the afternoon period of from 4 PM to 6 PM, in addition to the two lanes on the eastern carriageway, the eastern lane of the western carriageway will also be used to accommodate motor vehicles travelling south along the East Bank of Demerara highway.
