A man was shot dead less than 10 minutes after he grabbed a bag of money belonging to Black and Decker Hardware Store, Main Street, Georgetown.

The bandit has been identified as Lloyd Hazel. Police said a firearm was recovered from the bandit.

Well-placed sources said Hazel and an accomplice snatched the bag from a taxi that was taking an employee to a city bank to make a deposit of an estimated GUY$600,000.

At the time, the taxi was in the traffic queue outside Main Street waiting on the traffic light to change.

Sources said two men saw when the bag was taken away and opened fire, killing Hazel.

The bag of cash was retrieved.

Police arrived on the scene and took away Hazel’s body and his motorcycle in separate vehicles. That section of Main Street was cordoned off by crime scene detectives.
