Easter fires continue; two seriously hurt in accidents

The accident victim at Atlantic Gardens in a police vehicle that rushed him to a hospital.

At least two fires and two serious accidents marred Easter Monday, leaving at least two persons seriously injured and several homeless, sources and eyewitnesses said.

Doctors at Suddie Hospital were up to late in the night battling to save the life of Essequibo Coast mechanic, Rahul Arjune, following a collision on the Land of Plenty Public Road.

Eyewitnesses said he was driving his car at a fast rate when he collided with another vehicle.

On the East Coast Demerara, a motorcyclist was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical condition. He was riding along the East Coast Public Road when the cycle veered off into a nearby canal at Atlantic Gardens.

The bike’s registration number is CG 3192.

A reliable source, who was at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), said the unidentified rider’s shoulder was dislocated and his head swollen. He was also bleeding through his mouth and nose.

Fires

Fire, suspected to be the work of arsonists, destroyed a two-storey wooden house at 339 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke- Linden Highway. The house was owned by Clinton Rogers.

Those homeless are Victor Dewar and Phanmattie Sookdeo who occupied the top flat. The occupant of the lower flat was Keshan Mc Kenzie.

At Kwakwani, a fire erupted in a dwelling due to a child playing with matches on a mattress. There was serious damage and destruction to household articles.

Fire fighters rushed to the scene and prevented the blaze from engulfing Range Four. Occupying Apartment K was Adaline Rogers and her family of four. The bedroom walls were slightly damaged.

There have been at least three other fires since Holy Saturday.
